This week we are between studies. So we are highlighting one of our other studies offered on Thursday evenings. Alicia Childers was kind enough to share her thoughts and experience with the Apples of Gold study. It is an inspiring testimony that makes me want to find a similar study for men.
Apples of Gold by Alicia Childers, RN, BSN
Apples of Gold is a six week study that has meant a lot to me since taking the class. The study focuses on Titus 2:4 “train the young women to love their husbands and love their children, to be self- controlled, pure, homemakers, kind and submissive to their husbands, to that God’s message may not be slandered.” The ladies that were the mentors for apples of gold taught these principles by modeling each of these principles to us. They would teach us through God’s word how to live this out. They would share with us their own personal stories on how God used each of these principles in their families. For me personally having a mentor that I knew was praying for me and was just a phone call away if I was struggling with something was comforting to me.
The best part to me was making these lasting friendships with these ladies. Apples of gold did not stop for me after the study was over. Each lady is always encouraging to me still – asking about my family at church, sending me letters, having my family to their homes for dinner or taking me under their wing as my accountability partner. I have relationships with each of these women. They will never know how much they have impacted my life for the better. Each lady is a godly woman who does not just give you advice. They will sit down with you and show you in God’s word where to find the answers / instructions you are looking for. You see, you can have friends that give you a lot of advice, but if it does not line up with the word of God then it is not something you should be following.
So, to bring it all together, I believe apples of gold is a vital part of any church today. According to Titus 2:4, older women in the church mentoring younger women is a God-directed practice. As a church, this type of ministry should be encouraged. Not only do you, as a woman, benefit from it spiritually, but your family, friends, and church as well.
In a home setting, assigned mentors will guide you through the Titus 2 principle in a 6-week study. Format: Hors d’oeuvres, cooking demo, Bible study, table talk w/meal, prayer, dismissal.
